Burlap In All Its Glory

Images, Project Runway

Maligned and mocked

in a world of high fashion ..

we hear burlap referred to as

'that hideous fabric'

there are talented designers

quite capable of looking

beyond the scratchy texture

the loose weave

the mundane color

they know burlap

has great potential

morph it into creations

quite divine, haute couture, de rigueur

locavore fashion worth coveting

  6. All I could think of was how scratchy and uncomfortable they would be! I must be getting too old to care about what is in fashion. Also I keep thinking of its smell. It is always amazing really what they can made into fashion! Fun poem.

  8. I guess if they can make dresses out of Duct tape, they can make them out of burlap... but I do believe they'd be itchy. =)

  9. Well...someone just had to prove that that genetically blessed runway model would "look good in a burlap sack", I guess.

  11. All that, and it's itchy too. I was in a 1st grade Xmas play, and many of the kids were in burlap. One little boy stood too close to a candle, and his costume started burning, at which point he ran, and the fathers in the audience ran forward to put the flames out (his face was permanently scarred, and I don't what other injuries he had). During all this, none of us many other kids moved a muscle because we had been told to stand still, and we did it.
