Magpie 165

Jamie Wyeth ~ Monhegan's Schoolteacher ~ 2004

plenty of time to dream
for lads who lived on Monehegan Island

hard to concentrate
when teachers looked like this
{ in a boy's imagination }

if only they knew their lovely teacher read
by the light of the moon
by the light of the stars
naked and free of inhibition
until morning came

{ once again, their teacher }

  4. Indeed! My first love was my Kindy teacher, Miss Charlesworth. But I do not remember her body, nor do I remember noticing breasts until at least a decade and a half later... but I have made up for that since! X

  5. Interesting take. Don't think anyone really thinks of a teacher as a person whose teeth need brushing, etc. It might be that they disappeared as soon as the kids left the school & rematerialized the next day.

  6. She was a teacher
    proud, unafraid,
    to read the book in the moonlight
    with (or without)
    benefit of
    clothing.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  7. All I can think is that she would be freezing, sitting naked in front of the window when there is snow outside! Figures it was painted by a man.

  15. What a lovely idea, and so clever! I can only nostalgically hope it was true of my German teacher years ago!

  18. Your post was a rich experience! Wonderful poem to accompany this painting, and I appreciate what you did with the art at the end. I remember looking at the boys looking at certain teachers. Those gazes held a mystery I didn't understand then!
