If I Were Ready

Maryanne Delf ~ with permission

if I were ready
i would tell you I miss you
miss the ‘us’ we used to be.

if I were ready
you would not steal
into my dreams each night

if I were ready
i would confess
i never stopped loving you.

if I were ready
i would not crave
your kiss, your touch.

if I were ready
i would move on
without you.

If I were ready
I would have said good-bye
Years after you said it to me.

  3. It is hard to be the one who is not ready when a relationship is over. The pain is very palpable in your words, Helen. Mourning the loss takes time. Hopefully the day comes when we are ready.

  6. This made me want to cry, Helen. This is my kind of poetry. Something I can touch, believe and hold close to my heart. I can picture a person in my mind...very sad but needed.
