Honky Tonk Blues

Bill Doggett ~~ February 1916 - November 1996

Gonna sit myself down

Churn out some of that

Old time honky tonk music

Feelin' be-boppin' crazy

Rip roarin' ready

Finger snappin' groovy

Flowin' with the rhythm

Write that song while I

Move to the beat

Snap my gum

Tap my feet

Boogie-Woogie, ragtime

It's in my core

I'm a honky tonk woman

And a whole lot more

Long Time Ago ~ Video

  3. So this is "groovy"? The 50s have become a black hole in my thinking. I don't seem to remember much, except that I must have been in school then. Glad your memories are better than mine.

    Ciao for niao.

  4. I never felt at home in the Fifties, but the music was the foundation of all that came after. All the rock and roll there is started then. Great tribute.

  6. me, too, that TRAIN!
your poem reminds me of a children's book "charlie parker played be-bop." i know, different music, but the rhythm of your poem reminds me of it, one of my children's very favorite books to hear me read out loud.

  19. I like the Honky Tonk Woman song, this one has me dancing to that song. Before I married and went into the Army I would go to dances, we had two dance halls in Lincoln, Nebraska. But it was more fun loading my car and going down to Kansas, the drinking age there was 18. In Lincoln we had to find someone to buy us a bottle before we got to the dance. That's another story that I seldom tell.
