Just A Dream

Just A Dream

I sleep on your side of the bed

my head on your pillow

I feel closer to you

I sleep, dream, toss, turn

in a room devoid of warmth

 am I in REM sleep

or deep into R.E.M.

I feel your touch

hear you whisper

music. sacred. chanting.

you laughing

me falling

deeper. deeper.

onto you. into you. beyond you.

I awaken

you are gone

  12. This poem captures the emotions that are so hard to put into words: the empty space once occupied by one you have loved.

  14. I remember reading that when Gracie died, George Burns was inconsolable.

For a time, Burns admits, "things were very, very bad for me. My life was Gracie. But then, about two months later, I started sleeping in her bed—we had twin beds—and things just started turning around for me."

It is these simple primal things that bring comfort.

  15. You capture that in between realm so well...waking can be such harsh reality when we're given the gift of love on the other side.

Thank you for sharing this, Helen...it's inspired. ♥

  28. That's lovely. When my husband died I needed to get rid of his pillow, too much pain to have it there. That R.E.M. song is on my phone, one of only a few there. That and Night Swimming.
