Amen to Brian's comment. Sadly, I guess it's still appealing and sexy to young people. They say that if you don't start smoking as a teenager, you never will as an adult.
In a way things are made easier with negative messages and pics on the packs (mandatory here)The impact is, before, one in ten was a non-smoker but the reverse these days (just my contention from general observations)Nicely Helen!
Happy New Year Helen. there is tremendous competition from outside forces for our children's attention; makes the task challenging. You have outlined the opposition well. rel
So true. I'm so glad my daughter never took up the nasty habit. Neither did I, probably because both of my parents were heavy smokers, and I HATED growing up surrounded by it!
But there is NOTHING sexy about the man with the nicotine stained teeth and fingers, reeking of cigarette smoke. Or the woman with those fine lines circling her mouth, still dragging on the cigarettes. Or the person with emphysema carrying their own oxygen supply, or the one in the final stages of lung cancer come to the nursing home to die. (I see every day, I work in a nursing home) Perhaps they should air or print more of that in the ads! My parents were both smokers. Me, never had the desire to. I couldn't and still can't stand the smell! Well penned.
def teach your children, because the world will if you wont...
