Charisma ~ is it Fiction?
Some say
you’re born with it
like sapphire blue
eyes and jet black hair
destined
to stand out in a crowd
I say .. ya
gotta work
pretty damned hard to get it
Some say
you’re cursed if you've got it
posturing and
playing games
you have an image to
maintain
damned
exhausting .. if you ask me
Some say if
you have enough charisma
your looks
don’t have to be so great
others will
consider you ‘strangely attractive’
I say
.. that’s a bunch of bull ****

I believe force of personality will get one much further than looks. Nice one, Helen.
ReplyDeleteI had an old flame tell me once I didn't have to worry, it wasn't looks, it was personality. I felt OH so flattered. ;_) That has to be the original left-handed compliment.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, I remember an admirer who said, 'Plain women can be very attractive,' looking meaningfully at me. Not exactly what I wanted to hear.
DeleteSounds exhausting to me, too!
ReplyDeleteargh, this makes me need more coffee.
ReplyDeletesmiles...i think there are some people...and i dont know that it is charisma, but they just have something about them that draws people to them...which i think is a bit different than the slick oil salesman in this...
ReplyDeleteIt's what's inside that counts - not surface looks...
ReplyDeleteYes, exhausting........I love this, especially the "strangely attractive" part. Hee hee.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right!
ReplyDeleteI don't have it, but I believe in it, and I've learned that it's something to be wary of because it can lead one to trust when trust isn't warranted.
ReplyDeletecharisma --ah--you're born with. And I know I've merely envied it. Oh well...
ReplyDelete"Charisma" was my code word for "dandruff" when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to fit here too. It don't make you magic.
And if Chrisma makes you magic, it does so to the wrong people.
Cool playful poem
This is excellent, Helen, but, unfortunately, the word "charisma" always makes me think of Pierre Trudeau, as the news pundits always touted him as the first Canadian prime minister to have it. Fortunately, he was also a good prime minister.
ReplyDeleteK
Spot on--I know many people who have it and like Snowbush, I have trusted when I shouldn't have--
ReplyDelete*sigh* Sounds like you can't win - or you can't lose! :o)
ReplyDeleteDamned if you have it, damned if you don't...love it!
ReplyDeleteI liken charisma to personalitybmore than looks. You know you have both looks and personality in spades. Chutzpah even more than charisma. Not even sure what any of these words mean. Good thought provoking piece Helen.
ReplyDeleteWell, so much for trying to tell you I'm a charismatic Bear.
ReplyDeletePeculiar, delightful poem. Thanks.
Blessings and Bear hugs!

me too, Ithink :)
ReplyDeleteToo much! I am cracking up! You have caught me in the middle of more questions that have no answers! Love it.
ReplyDeleteI know people with that certain "something", they aren't attractive by Hollywood standards, but their energy and fun just draw people. I'll take that over looks any day... well, maybe I'll take both. Ha ha.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think it does exist, and come naturally to some people. It can accompany either good character or bad (being a separate quality in its own right) – and can indeed blind one to the bad, when that's the case.
ReplyDeleteI met one person in my life who had charisma, as I define the word. It was rather frightening. I can see how people like that could start a cult and others would follow him to the ends of the earth. I found myself just nodding at everything he said, as he smiled so sincerely. Like I said, frightening. I never forgot him.
ReplyDeletehaha a bunch of bull Love it Still I want to argue that it isn't the looks. People with charisma are rare. My brother met the Dalai Lama and said he was awe struck by his charisma.
ReplyDeleteloved the playful poem.
ReplyDeletei think charisma is not just about looks, but more on the force of the person's personality.
Yup! I still agree--100%
ReplyDeleteWhat about if you're charismatic and don't want to be, don't want to draw so many people to you? An interesting word/quality that's got me thinking.
ReplyDeleteHaha. Yes, I worked hard for mine but only got4 the black hair. Blue eyes went to my sister but she had brown hair. Since we have both and can share, does that count?
ReplyDelete..
Intelligence is the big turn on and dangerous for me. I am dazzled by brilliance and talent and have been known to make poor decisions encountering it...it is not something that happens often:)
ReplyDeleteCharisma has always fascinated me --- how some who are gifted with it use it well, obtain success and do good things, and others use it for evil and selfish ends. Compare, for example, Adolph Hitler and Nelson Mandela. Great poem, Helen.
