"The elephant in the room." I had forgotten about the THING we all want to talk about but won't. Perfectly rorschach--another place to avoid the first thing that comes to mind!

they look like black lung to me and remind me of going into the mines in KY...also of all the tire rubber from the factory i worked as a kid...and the blacl phlem the guys would hock up
To respond to J. Cosmo's comment: We don't need to scare the lolaphant( I mean elephant!) We need to call him out and get everyone out of denial! I love the direction you went with this one, Helen!
How can we live if we always deal with that elephant? Thank God we can distract ourselves, and others with stories and anecdotes that take us far, far away from what pains us.
the republican party about now... lol, OK, now I see both in the mirror two chickens facing forward, fat hens on the bottom third of the inkblot, trying to keep balance yet cross to the other side...
No, those elephants are too dangerous to confront sometimes, although you make yours seem almost whimsical.(I'm getting tigers standing on their heads from looking at the top image) Thank you.
Helen... Thank you for the back story on my blog. It makes your post all the more poignant. Loved your Elephantine 55 I'm truly sorry for your loss of a friend. But having beautiful souls like you around makes things a bit easier Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End

In the top image, the elephant is doing the hokey pokey, obviously! And your poem ... very clever and true.
ReplyDeleteHefalumps are not welcome here! (Check with Piglet on that.) Other than that, a sweet but mildly troubling poem.

This is an excellent interpretation, Helen.. from the image to the whole elephant in the room metaphor.
ReplyDeleteYes, the elephant always seems to be there.
ReplyDeleteI do this far too often, and then catch my self... with conscience wide awake and must speak.

ReplyDeleteToe tapping, side stepping? Obviously an elephant who's light on its feet! :-)
ReplyDeleteElephants--or even alligators! A lot of truth in this one Helen, and no one ever wants to unpack the trunk of the elephant in the room, do they?
ReplyDeleteHow can we live if we always deal with that elephant? Thank God we can distract ourselves, and others with stories and anecdotes that take us far, far away from what pains us.
