Lost ~~ My Youth

Magaly introduces us to the word "rizz" ~~ Oxford's 2023 Word of the Year! It's defined as "style, charm, or attractiveness; the ability to attract a romantic or sexual partner". I was way ahead of my time when I composed this poem in 2013 ... all about the RIZZ.

My youth rizz is lost .. it's vanished
do not cry for me
with age comes something better
grace and dignity

My youth rizz is lost .. my brashness
my utter naiveté
I’m older and I’m wiser
mellowed, feeling free

My youth rizz is lost .. I’m grateful
for lessons learned each day
triumphs and the losses
mere words cannot convey

Would I return .. reclaim it
more songs to be sung
my body has betrayed me
my brain still thinks I'm young

  10. I loved your poem so much, it's now featured on my post. Isn't it so true, the brain thinks we're young and the body constantly reminds us we're not. Oh this made me chuckle.

  13. Sounds like a great place to be!! My youth is definitely long gone and I often find it kind of embarrassing to look back at my awkwardness and naiveté. Dignity and grace rule!!

  14. Ha ha, know just what you mean about that disparity between body and brain.

  15. Oh, those last two lines... sigh. Too true. I like how easily youth becomes rizz.

  16. I miss my rizz! It's been replaced, not by something better, just different for me. Who knew? I feel like a shape shifting shaman.

  18. Makes me wonder. My youth was soso, guess my rizz was better. Married young, wife younger, still rizz doesn't go away like the youth does. Nice writing, Helen.
I love the way you've replaced your youth, right on the paper it's replaces. Kin to recycling perhaps?

  20. Rizz is short for charisma... and I think it just evolves into a different shade as we age...but it is still there!!!! :)

  24. I just love this, Helen! It should be a poster hung on the wall that we can refer to when age tries to creep in.
