morning walk to our grocery store
list
clutched in my hand
Mother knows I’m safe and sound
In 'Caseyville Small- Town Land'
summer's here it sure is hot
morning is our time to shop
list
is short, our budget's tight
bread and apples, milk and cheese
a nickel to spare? Oh Mercy Me!
I’ll
have a Pepsi please

I adore this, Helen!
ReplyDeleteI remember walking to the shops on my own before the age of five - never would have let my kids beyond the gate unchaperoned. Times have changed - we have paid a price for progress.
ReplyDeleteThis gave me a chill because of the memories it touched in me. We called nickles "white money," so much more valuable than pennies, which we were given each Sunday to put in the poor box (there were 9 of us/kids).
ReplyDeleteadorable really!!... i remeber going grocery shopping for mamma on my cycle and the pleasure of having some change left!
ReplyDeleteYes, I used to run all kinds of errands like that for my mother(who almost never left the house, IIRC--how odd)--but now I doubt many children can. Sad, but a happy memory, anyway.
ReplyDeleteDelightful for sure....the simple things of life always remain in our memories. Love this Helen!
ReplyDeleteoOo, a little bit of sweet serendipity at the end!
ReplyDeleteYou sure sparked some memories here, Moonie. We worked out that we got more ice cream in two half-penny cones than in one penny cone. Mr Rawlings never complained. X
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet, innocent pleasures. I wish for those times back - but life moves foreword.
ReplyDeleteI love the memories of those walks. We lived on the out skirts of town and I was always walking-everywhere! Fun to read!
ReplyDeleteA not-so-quick to the story for a few things. I remember doing that. Along time ago. And, again, this week. A 60 year spread in events.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and Bear hugs!
lovely meal bread apples and cheese!
ReplyDeleteMrs Wachter will keep an eye on ya !
ReplyDeleteNice one Helen. A lovely little gem of a memory.
ReplyDeleteShopping is always more fun in rhyme. Well done.

ReplyDeleteHow lovely a memory! Our store was too far away and there was too much traffic for me to enjoy this kind of adventure. I wish I had!
ReplyDeleteit is nice to get those treats...like a pepsi when there is money to spare..
