Bucket List

BEFORE I KICK THE BUCKET

1970 ~ twenty and-nine
first bucket list
I vowed to repeat
 every decade thereafter

raising four children in the 60s / 70s
ages two through ten, my list was
(i must confess) probably over-ambitious
"hand's full" is putting it mildly

we made it through the 70s with
flying colors, I forgot the list, focused on
training wheels, music lessons, scouting, sports
special education and graduations

plunged head-first into the 80s
a failed marriage, another kind of bucket list
return to school, a new career, a different kind of life

decade after decade life went on
I took whatever came my way
living, laughing, thanking, loving
all the way down the yellow brick road ...
not ready for it to end any time soon

  2. What a full life you've lived with much more to come. So true that when in the moment, no list is required.

  5. It is quite an accomplishment to live in the moment and find joy in it... it's what most people are striving for.

  6. All on a happy or optimistic note. My life mimics these, not one thing doesn't fit, slightly different order and times. But then I'm older. Thank you for sharing, I believe everything I read here.

  7. I'm with you. Like New Year's resolutions, I don't make lists anymore (other than grocey!). No lists or resolutions required to take life as it comes. Life each day to the fullest.

  9. We made similar journeys, my friend..........I raised four kids as a single mom....busy, happy years......then made some journeys of my own. I love your closing lines. Me, too!!!!! (I especially love the golden road! My memories shine golden, too, at this time of life. We were so - alive!)

  12. "true confession, with the arrival of 1990
an epiphany: for years, I'd been living life
front and center, in the moment
no lists required ~ older, wiser"

    Excellent, Helen!
