they steal our dreams
as we sleep
auction them off
to the highest bidder
they steal our beliefs
as we sleep
pass them out
like halloween candy
they steal our faith
as we sleep
bundle and dump it
recycling not an option
they steal our vision
as we slumber
impenetrable blindfold
our future unfathomable
It's Poetics Tuesday in the dVerse Pub ~ Sanaa asks us to write in the style of Amber Rose Tamblyn. Her poems are amazingly descriptive. We are to create visuals of our own. Use our first thought, the first thing that comes to mind ~ then let our words move us forward in poetry.

Oh, wow... I think i will stay awake! So much truth in your poem. I have heard it said that "What's happening is not what's going on!" You have shared that very well.

I love the poignancy with which this poem is penned, Helen! There is so much emotion here .. I resonate with "they steal our faith," .. yes they do! And it is up to us to hold on to it as strongly as we can! May we remain steadfast!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for writing to the prompt ❤️❤️❤️
Dearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteOne of your most poignant poems!
Hugs,
Mariette
This has a very dark feel to it, Helen. Well written!

Helen, your poem speaks of the alternate truths, and "they." I never know who they are, but "they" are terrifying! You captured those feelings so well.
ReplyDeleteTruly excellent Helen - great repetition line and exploration of all that is unholy in today's world...
ReplyDeleteThis is spot on about society these days. The fake, silly social media movement. The ads. Everything.
ReplyDeleteWow, this is a gripping piece. I had to pause at the second stanza. Love it.
ReplyDeleteWow....evil doers indeed! Makes me think insomnia wouldn't be so bad! I agree with Mish....gripping indeed.
ReplyDeleteThis poem is a dark depiction of "they".
