Mish has us dancing our way to Poetry [and Poetics] in the Pub this fine day!
I lost a dear friend, a former co-worker, world-wide travel buddy, dance partner, confidant. On January 9th. Gordon passed in his sleep in a place he loved, Sri Lanka, while visiting a family he had known since living with them as an exchange student his senior year of high school.
This one's for you Gordon.
i dance the dance eternal
i dance to dull the pain
nothing else makes sense
this loss i feel to the
depth of my being
we've a ballroom of memories
we left footprints on the floor of time
dances of joy mixed with dances of tears
i cherish our dance
the many thousands of steps we took
together, forever, my friend

That is a legacy, may he be in a place where he can dance at his hearts delight.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss, Helen. This one was hard to read as I feel your still fresh pain, but the "dancing" memories will survive, those "footprints on the floor of time." A beautiful tribute of poetry and photos to a dearly loved friend. May you be comforted in knowing he was at the end in a place and with a family he loved. ❤️
ReplyDeleteBeautiful
ReplyDeleteHelen, I am so very sorry for your loss. I hope this write offered some release. It is extremely touching. I especially love the thought of a "ballroom of memories". Beautiful. He seemed like a man full of life and adventure. I think of of the song "I hope you dance". I think he definitely did! Sending hugs.
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteIt really hurts when we lose someone we shared so much time with.
Those fond memories will last until you dance again on cloud nine!
Hugs,
Mariette
Lovely pictures of you with your friend. "A ballroom of memories" can't get any better than that. I love dancing but never seem to have an opportunity anymore. Ain't that pathetic?
