innocent child i was once you
a tender bud in bloom
i know the fears that dance
within your soul, the whispers
of uncertainty, questions rising
like waves upon the shore
precious child
i have walked the path
though the road was sometimes
obscured, i found the light within
my guiding star, embrace your journey
every twist and turn, do not be afraid
to stumble, in falling you will discover strength
in breaking you will be born anew, i wish i were there
to guide you, hold fast to love, our greatest gift of all
darling child
you will always be
“enough” just as you are
born to fly, dance, sing
paint the world in colors
bold and bright, living your authentic life
Poetics Tuesday in dVerse Poets Pub ~ Sanaa asks us to write a "Conversation Poem" in the style of Poet Maggie Smith ~ a poem "addressing" an absent person or thing ~ essentially a monologue.
Dearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteA precious photo and a lovely poem about a darling child!
Hugs,
Mariette
Helen, I appreciate the encouragement and insight you share with your younger self here...if we only knew then what we know now!
ReplyDeleteLynn here...anonymously ;)
DeleteCool! Glad you two could talk and catch up. Seriously, it's a good poem and an important conversation.
ReplyDeleteWonderful poem and conversation.
ReplyDeleteOnly you know the worry inside that child who looks so confident in that photo....
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful heartfelt poem, Helen. I love the ‘questions rising like waves upon the shore’ and the excellent advice ‘do not be afraid to stumble’.
ReplyDeleteYou have my heart with this poem, Helen! Such a heartfelt rendition, thank you so much for sharing 🩷🩷
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and relatable, Helen. I love this.
ReplyDeleteNice, good memory with nice memories. I don't remember my childhood very well, Dad boxing my ears, a really good beating with lots of black and blue, and being mean to my mom. He changed all of a sudden one day, we started going to church and he became a deacon. But he still boxed my ears every now and then, for no reason that I knew or remember.
ReplyDelete..
Beautiful and inspiring words Helen. Wouldn't it be lovely if we can all talk to our younger self/child. Love what you said about embracing the light within us.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful conversation with that cute young lady! Well done.
ReplyDeleteFantastic poem. I once read (I don't remember where and who said it) that in order to heal our soul we must take our child on our knees and caress it). A favorite song is one that speaks for itself child: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWvZnY-8RIU Have a nice day!
ReplyDelete"darling child
ReplyDeleteyou will always be
“enough” just as you are" --- Tenderly spoken to a child that yet lives in you, I think, Helen, even in memory, and how we long to hear those words yet from those we love, from ourselves! This poem is just wrapped with light and wisdom and shines brightly, Helen.
Hi Helen, I love that you chose to write about your younger self. A delightful and inspiring poem.
