Louis Wain ~ untitled
shadows fall ~ she wanders alone
wisps of sorrow ~ silent moan
through moonlit alleys ~ softly prowls
heart's lament ~ in midnight howls
streets are cold ~ devoid of grace
aloneness is a cold embrace
moon and stars ~ in quiet sleep
kitty roams through shadows deep
her beloved lost this night
searching now with all her might
Every street lamp seems to beat a fatalistic warning ** Lyric from "Memory"
Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS
In the Pub ~ Melissa introduced us to artist, Louis Wain. The subject is CATS!

I love the way you used the rhymes in this, now I see the image of the kitty more as a memory of a loved one lost.
ReplyDeletethe caesura of each line gives just the right paws for thought (oh an irresistible pun) but seriously a superb poem of rhyming couplets
ReplyDeleteIrresistible indeed...
DeleteThat poem is almost as sad as the Louis Wain movie. I feel sorry for that kitty.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweetly sad. Love this one Helen!
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteKitty roams through shadows deep... A very sad fact for so many!
Hugs,
Mariette
Her eyes are so unflinching like her persistence to find him.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteThe cat, how happy it can be and how unhappy it can be on the other hand. How close happiness is to unhappiness.
Her lover is lost....
You touched us Eleni!
Have a nice day❤️!
Who knows the lives of cats in the night but you paint us a picture Helen...
ReplyDeleteAww! Such a tender, beautiful rhyming write, Helen! I absolutely love it.
ReplyDeleteI could see her in my mind's eye, Helen, like a flashback to a scene in the CATS musical, its most poignant moments. Loved the vivid weaving of imagery and emotion in "streets are cold ~ devoid of grace/aloneness is a cold embrace" -- "wisps of sorrow" -- "through moonlit alleys ~ softly prowls/heart's lament" --- Stellar poetry
ReplyDeleteI immediately thought of the Cats musical - love your poem!
ReplyDeleteI, too, thought of the play. Your prose moves us from line to line as gracefully as a cat.
ReplyDeleteLosing the kitty in that picture would turn anyone into a lonely wanderer embraced by cold nights ...
ReplyDeleteI love this, Helen! I got to see Cats on Broadway. It was amazing!😸
