Punam is hosting Open Link Night in the Pub ~ I chose this lovely painting by an artist she admires Amrita Sher-Gil for inspiration ~~~ with your indulgence I offer an encore poem from April of last year.
SISTERS
HELEN - the eldest
positioned quite grand
curator of memories
keeper of sand
laugh lines map tales
of love, sometimes strife
a canvas of wrinkles
sweet years of her life
YOUTH? - Helen chuckles
with vivid brush-strokes
splashes canvas with passion
and bright cosmic jokes
MARY ANNE - in the middle
and mischief's disguise
brown eyes that sparkle
sense of humour that defies
loves to work puzzles
would dance in the rain
her giggling laughter
the sweetest refrain
YOUTH? - Mimi giggles
a bold street-art wall
sprayed with bright colors
meant to enthrall
SHIRLEY - the youngest
a comic at heart
daddy's little shadow
original work of art
drinks scotch on the rocks
reads all her books twice
artwork bring sonnets
poetic paradise
YOUTH? - Shirley sighs
tossed tempest at sea
loves to play outlier
born to be free
AGE - my sweet sisters
our breathtaking ode
each wrinkle's a stanza
as life's tales unfold
YOUTH - may be fleeting
but age / pure delight
virtual masterpiece
landscape so bright!

How delightful it must be to have such sisters, and how joyful you all look together!
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful poem! You are a true curator of memories.
Hugs,
Mariette
How beautiful to enjoy each other. The poem is amazing. Ultimately poetry offers food for thought and compressed information that everyone receives differently. I enjoyed the poem and the photos. They show a more positive world🧡🌷!
ReplyDeleteYouth is fleeting but age lingers on. That is my reality.
ReplyDeleteA glamorous beautiful trio....love the photo. Your love for your sisters is beautifully expressed....Rall
ReplyDeleteWhat a joy to read. Sounds like you still have your sisters. My three were all older and now I am the "curator and keeper of sand".
ReplyDeleteThis is so filled with love... I especially like the lines "curator of memories / keeper of sand"...wow!
ReplyDeleteLovely, Helen. Really nice rundown on the sisters, Helen, Mary Ann, and Shirley, three. I haven't seen my sister in maybe seven years, she lives in Iowa, Cedar Rapids area. I would like to see her one more time. They are not capable of driving down here, might not fly. I don't want to fly up there, but would like to drive and stop in Arkansas to see a first cousin who is two years younger than me, we were pretty close. My daughter/mother wannabe, thinks I shouldn't drive that far. Mrs. Jim has been cautioned by her shrink not to drive on much-traveled-on streets and roads. The planes don't stop anywhere near the cousin's residence.
ReplyDelete..
Are you doing NaPoWriMo writing this year? I am trying, will have to postpone income tax to do it.

So much fun... and love between sisters. You all are so pretty and youthful looking.
ReplyDeleteHelen this is really beautiful. You are blessed to have sisters.
ReplyDeleteAlas - I'm an only child.
I sincerely appreciate your kind, and encouraging, comments.
I love that photo of three loving sisters. This is a fun poem to read.
ReplyDeleteWhat a trio! I hope you read this at a family holiday. It should go down in history!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that you are all still together, Helen. I love that photo and wish I had both my sisters still. Yes we are/were three, but the youngest no longer speaks to me. I too am the eldest. I love that you are the ‘curator of memories’ and ‘keeper of sand’.
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by that "keeper of sand" - in the hourglass of years, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteSo eloquently written, Helen. I love what you did pairing the painting with your own life. That is a wonderful shot of you and your sisters! Well done!!
ReplyDeleteYe Gods! As I was reading was trying to think why you named one of the sisters Helen, and marvelling at the ad-hoc details, so I was taken completely by surprise....that surprise gave a poetry a whole new level....very nicely done, three wonderful dames, truly lovely.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful honoring of your sisterhood. I especially like your last lines.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous sisters, gorgeous verse celebrating life! 😍 Love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Helen, for including the mini prompt.
