Merril plays host in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ all about Fashion and Poetry
come on fellas make my day
set the rules - sit down, let's play
a poker novice, please be kind
first game ever bear in mind
can't believe it - worst hand of six
best not play them 'old boy' tricks
throwin' in my high top shoes
enough to give this gal the blues
next to go - scarf round my neck
old and faded, what the heck
sweater, t-shirt, fashionista jeans
think you know just what this means
not much left for me to drop
floor looks like a clothing shop
oops!! forgot i still have socks
lo and behold opportunity knocks
it's cold outside - i call your bluff
cash in your chips - we've played enough
them good ole boys gave me a pass
retrieved my clothes with utmost class
same place next week - we play again?
no chance in hell - i wink and grin!

Dearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteGuess I never could have played poker like that...
Hugs,
Mariette
I never learned to play poker. This makes me think of spin the bottle!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem Helen,
ReplyDeleteI don't know poker either but I sure don't want to learn.
But surely the poem is a success,
there is also this side of life!
So naughty Helen! And such an imaginative take on Fashion...
ReplyDeleteABSOLUTELY superb! Love it! A delicious read, funny, cheeky, but more important, it all flowed, and fit just perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great take on the prompt, Helen! This made me laugh, and I read it to my husband who also enjoyed it. I wonder if there's any truth in this tale. 😉
ReplyDeleteHa... that's a game I never played (but I heard about it)... but it's better to be well versed in poker before trying.
ReplyDeleteNever played, but I can see the need for knowing rules before-hand.
ReplyDeleteThis was such a fun read, you kept a real tension the whole way. Delicious. Reminded me of playing poker in my late teens.
ReplyDeleteI’m betting this might be a real story.😜
