said i had a surprise
meet me in the park, usual place
[last chance]
shopped hours for the
perfect hat, loving smile exposed
[for you]
plastered myself all
over that stupid billboard
[for you]
watched from close by
waited for a glance, a reaction
[from you]
could you not sense my energy
my aura, my perfume
[from me]
what were you reading, the usual
sports, stock market, opinions
[for you]
you finished, folded the paper
stood and simply walked away

Tuesday in the dVerse Poets Pub and time for Poetics!!! Dora is host and requests a poem, in our own voices, about being stood up, ghosted, jilted, left dangling!!

The man deserved being stood up! Loved the graphic, loved the poem, Helen. Every little detail capitalizes on the humor and the elaborate set up, and the sotto voce within parentheses is so effective! A pleasure to read.
ReplyDeleteAh well, I think he deserved it! I liked the style too... well written.
ReplyDeleteOh! You did this well, Helen. Enjoyed your poem and photo. :)
ReplyDeleteThe elegance of seduction waits fragrantly a while ... but is smart of heart here to cut one's losses when lavishing its pearls on male swine. Better spent elsewhere ... Amen.
ReplyDeleteHe definitely deserved it!
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteHe did not get the 'hat' or head turner... HIS loss.
Hugs,
Mariette
The image was wonderful and said it all. Men!
ReplyDeleteThrough a few words you give us the whole picture Eleni!!
ReplyDeleteCan't say she didn't make an effort!! Good one, Helen :D
ReplyDeleteI like Brendan's comment of your casting pearls before swine. It had to hurt. Glad you left him in the dust.
ReplyDeletep.s. I'm "Anonymous"
ReplyDeleteHelen, I love the billboard, love the hat, love the parentheses and love the poem! Fabulous.
ReplyDeleteHi Helen, I really enjoy your style of poetry. This is so punchy. Robbie
