Found on a sidewalk
rusty and bent
free ~ just for me
nary a cent.
Neighborhood trash
became this lady's treasure
sensing potential
transformed at my leisure.
Spray painted now
in a bright yellow hue
candles at night
my chandy looks new.
Don't turn up your nose
at items marked "free"
turn trash into treasure
recycle with me!

You do your duty by filling your garage with castoffs. I have a Christmas tree stand big and strong enough to hold a larger live tree in mine. Some others too, a nice three shelf bookcase sits between my Mustangs.

Oh yes, we set aside a nice sleeper couch with a "free" sign one its back. There for a day and two nights, no takers. I almost cried when I watched the garbage chewer crunch it to pieces in the truck.

ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
Up–cycling is such a great thing!
Hugs,
Mariette
I love this ... trash can be transformed into treasure when a creative soul finds it.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm with you there! Many a treasure I've found, saved and repurposed. But now our local Council has changed from designated days for leaving out our hard rubbish, which allowed lots of wonderful scavenging, to each household having to phone them up for twice-yearly collection dates when needed. We are not allowed to put stuff on the kerb until the night before our day, and no-one is allowed to take anything for fear of prosecution for 'looting.' I think this is so the Council can stock its 'tip shop' instead, where people can buy used items quite cheaply — not quite the same as finding something for free. (Deleted first try at this because of typos.)
ReplyDeleteGreat find Helen,
ReplyDeleteloved it!
But your creativity didn't stop there,
you also wrote a beautiful poem on this occasion!
These are good habits that help the environment too!
Wonderful! Upcycling is the way to go...we just need to stop making all of this stuff and use what's floating around. Kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing second hand items get transformed!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I often drag home items left on the curbs!
ReplyDeleteI had quite the chuckle reading your comment! We have a neighbor named Sid. He and his wife are relocating from Bend to the Portland area to live closer to children and grands. Each morning Sid (who in some ways of how I imagine you) walks down their steep driveway to lay out more goodies for the neighbors and passersby to take. He swears to us, they are taking almost nothing with them when they move. Furniture will be next no doubt.
ReplyDeleteYou never know where a treasure may turn up.
