For Shay and the Wordlist!

You know those theaters that serve meals

provide sofas for lounging

well here I sit ~ big mistake

tepid coffee

clumpy cheesecake

what the hell movie am I watching

oh yeah, “Gunfight at the O.K. Corral”

an oldie and a goodie

Wyatt Earp ~ Doc Holliday

neglected characters ~ long forgotten ..

like an actor's smock retrieved from props

smelling faintly of mothballs

.. and roll the credits

Burt Lancaster ~ Kirk Douglas

'twas a beautiful escape

like wildflowers blooming

in the Wild West's dust and dirt

'midst relics of all the lost stories

funny thing ~ soon I forgot all about the

tepid coffee and clumpy cheesecake!

  1. Nice poem about old movies.
Some old ones that were my favorites when I saw them now disappointed me, some others I liked, I understood them better!
    Nostalgia!!
    Have a great week Helen!

  2. You got absorbed in it, didn't you Helen? I love old movies, though I favor romance or gangsters. I used to go to one of those places with the sofas and all, I loved it.

  3. Dearest Helen,
Well, those former actors could indeed warm up a tepid coffee!
    Miss them...

  5. Those movies, those actors (!) will keep you at the edge of your sofa and make you forget "tepid coffee/clumpy cheesecake" in a heartbeat! Love the way you put it, Helen.

  6. Ha, I never did take advantage of those theaters that served meals. Couldn't imagine the food would be anything to write home about. And would hate the smell of food all around me for the entirety of the movie anyway. Theaters and restaurants should not be in the same facility. But indeed, movies ARE good escapes!

  7. Those comfy chairs that go way back are perfect for a nap! I have to stay upright or else I miss the whole plot. Smiles.

  8. It's so good when an old movie hits the spot--when tepid coffee and clumpy cheesecake do not!
