now you see her / now you don't
a reflection / where she is not
yet she must be there
for the reflection exists.
a carefree stroll through youth
cornerstone of who she was
cherished child / right there
in the mirror / touch her happy face.
it's time to force a look inward
behind the mirror / what is locked inside
what she's been claiming to be
her heart / essence / deeds.
if you can wipe her away
take away her power
with one quick
swipe of the mirror
how much of a person
was ever there?
[ she was there / oh she was there ]

Never trust a mirror, I say. The paranormal wisdom is that they're a portal for spirits, and we all know how tricky and untrustworthy THEY are. Trust the inner eye, it's always more accurate!
ReplyDeleteShe was there and she still is. You have a radiance, a happiness, about you, Helen - being a cherished child puts that sort of platform under one's feet. I love this poem.
ReplyDeleteAnd the photos!
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteOh, you still ARE there, the cherished child and the grown woman!
Hugs,
Mariette
"it's time to force a look inward/behind the mirror" -- it's always that time, because the mirror conceals as much as it reveals. I love the ending, how you give us the best reason of all why "she must be there." Such a wonderful read, Helen, I loved it!
ReplyDeleteI hope she finds her true reflection and claims it as her own - Jae
ReplyDeleteI think the post is a beautiful continuation of the previous one!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful poem, in general it is necessary to look at the past so that we can continue in the future!
Have a beautiful day Helen!
Every mirror can be deceiving and you lovely poem paints a picture of hope and regret !
ReplyDeleteLove your reading of the poem. Mirrors seem to shift into the negative we see in ourselves, yet there are those bright reflections of our beauty. Love this poem!
ReplyDeleteMirrors are not to be trusted. Beautiful poem, Helen!
ReplyDeleteVery cool with the photo!
