Belmont Blues
Cheers to rhymes / with a gambler's beat
blues and high stakes / the 'all-in' compete
world is slicked over / with sugar and cold
a musical grit / that dares to be bold
guts meeting claws / in combustible waltz
bully's misstep / the 'house' screaming false
but jazz keeps on riffing / wild on the sly
Belmont's sweet rhythm / cracking the sky

Play it, woman!
ReplyDeleteSo awesome - could be sung, or chanted in a WTF-is-going-on march. Smiles.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Shay. Play it!!

ReplyDeleteA guy could wake up with Missus So Damn Wrong She's Perfect Right gambling here. Go easy on us geezers cracking ancient skies!
ReplyDeleteA humdinger of a blues tune, Helen, and played just right.
ReplyDeleteLoving the rhyme and cadence, Helen, and the solid vibe of those vagaries of chance we ride. in games and in life.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your jazz riffs, Helen! You're right, the high stakes make it wilder and better! 🙂
ReplyDelete“but jazz keeps on riffing / wild on the sly // Belmont's sweet rhythm / cracking the sky” - Fantastic. I love that.
