April Fool's Day ~ Melissa is host in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ asks us to write a poem using a 60 / 40 truth to lie ratio [mine may be skewed more toward truth]
Yoda the kitty ~ orange fluff-ball so fine
rescued one day by a Human quite kind
Yoda she named him ~ with a flick of his tail
vowed "no ma'am, no inside ~ i was born to set sail
rooftops and pastures, the world far and wide
shall be my domain ~ I was made for outside”
yet danger did lurk in the form of a foe
a spiteful mean neighbor (we've all known that woe)
this villainous scoundrel with hatred and spite
trapped poor sweet Yoda ~ locked him up tight
kind lady rescued ~ quickly set free
but Yoda and freedom were not meant to be
the villain struck back ~ one more cat-napping scheme
dumping him miles away ~ survival a dream
the Badlands we call it ~ a wasteland and bleak
Yoda ~ scant sustenance, would grow thin and weak
three months through snowstorms, frostbite and chill
he prowled with resilience, luck and sheer will
till one day in May on a porch far away
a farm couple found him ~ Oh Happy Day
under his collar the farm couple spied
so faint ~ a phone number, the snow tried to hide
ring ring her phone ~ could it be true
kind Human answered ~ and finally knew
worst winter ever ~ he'd somehow survived
her precious feline ~ alive now pint-sized
together at last ~ in her arms safe and tight
no villain, no weather would steal him this night
cheers to brave Yoda ~ the cat who defied
schemes of the wicked ~ storms far and wide
here's to his Human ~ the best of her kind
love once it's found ~ forever entwined

Very well written, Helen!

ReplyDeleteThree cheers for Yoda's pluck and luck and fine storyteller. In addition to the two cats we care for inside, two strays have become porch regulars. We had one stray we fed for 20 years.

Size matters not, Yoda kitty-kat a true Jedi. Excellent poem, very uplifting!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great read Helen, you maintained the story and the tension. Fiction or not, it's sad that such people do exist and behave that way towards animals.
