For Poets & Storytellers ~ Friday Writings
Rosemary encourages us to use “flash poetry” in our poems ~ a distinct kind of prose poetry, characterized by ‘flashiness’: emotional intensity, immediacy, sharply vivid imagery, the capturing of a moment rather than a narrative!
Spider's on the ceiling
see him, legs a-dance
can't behold him squarely
only sideways, at a glance
from 'cross the room I'm squinting
pretending nonchalance
yet lock my eyes upon him
courage I do not want
he knows I know he's lurking
eight eyes shine with mirth
I'll watch him sort of vaguely
give him a wide berth
I'd kill the sob.

DeleteVery vivid and entertaining! I am ambivalent about spiders. I do have something of a phobia, yet I also revere them as highly sentient beings. No-one is allowed to kill spiders in my house, and if any come in I find ways to get them outside without harming them. Unless they are dangerous to humans, in which case I do kill them quick.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I know who's winning. 😁
ReplyDeleteI will leave them alone, mostly are harmless, but once a while there will be a visitor like a black widow spider and i will try to chase it out of the house. 😃
Recently a lizard entered my flat. I beat it with a broom but I don't know where it's gone. Perhaps lurking somewhere. I can therefore appreciate your feelings expressed in the poem.
ReplyDeleteOh I enjoyed this Love how the spider is playing you and the interplay between you haha
ReplyDeleteHmm...I wonder if you were thinking about spiders when you were writing this:)
ReplyDeleteNicely written. I don't mind spiders but don't go out of my way to meet them either.
ReplyDeleteSpiders are fun to watch from afar.
