# 10 Downing Street

[ Confession ~ I don't know much about the British Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer ~ only what I've read ]

Sir Keir took the helm with a sensible frown
vowed order and progress would steady the Crown
he promised renewal, reform and repair
then tripped on tradition, loosened his hair

The UK keeps waving and singing its song
while Keir checks the balance of right versus wrong
a kingdom of nuance decorum and tea
where change moves as slowly as scones on the sea

  1. Ah, a very creative way to respond to 'number 10'.

  2. Hardly know the Brit"s royalty scheme let alone the 10 D. In the U.S. it is near Greenwich Village.
Been missing you, glad to see you tonight.

  4. 10 Downing Street — the perfect example of an address more powerful than its occupant. Really enjoyed your poem!

  6. Well, that's a very clever way to do ten! Have scones changed forms crossing the sea, like biscuits? I like our kind of scones. And both our kind and their kind of biscuits!

  7. Love this, Helen. Great direction for ten. Now I am left with an image of scones floating on the sea.

  8. I like "a kingdom of nuance, decorum and tea." Not what the British seem to have at the moment, but what they seem to want.
