Time for Open Link Night in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ Grace is hosting ~~~~ Anything Goes!!
I am the poet who risks
what her voice scripts
freeing the storyteller in me.
Who am I when
the performance ends ~
the part of me
that remains hidden ~
the part that dares you
see me fully, slowly
then all at once.
You believe so well
the role I play
I am candid enough to
name my simplicity
honest enough to admit
what knowing it brings.

Nice one

ReplyDeletename my simplicity/honest enough to admit/what knowing it brings. Love this Your poem is deep and beautiful
Hey! I think the poet in you is a wonderful storyteller as well.
ReplyDeleteTelling stories is maybe what humanity is.
ReplyDeleteI love the transparency of the storyteller, Helen, and the way the poet ‘risks
ReplyDeletewhat her voice scripts’. We poets must continue to tell our stories.
Yeah, this Brendan mask is Poetry’s persona -- mythic and older than old – the guy who wears that mask is the third kid from the left in the rear row of the grainy class photo. Stories don’t need no owners!
ReplyDeleteFabulous <3

ReplyDeleteHelen, this is stunning! Love the closing stanza.
ReplyDeleteI, for one, am glad you're a poet and that you always dare to share! π
ReplyDeleteYour poem evoked the skills of a Fan Dancer - always fascinating and always threatening to, but not ever, revealing all - a great storyteller, Helen...
ReplyDeleteYou have tremendous talent in writing.
