Lillian introduces us to Azul ~ an eight year old boy from the Philippines ~ and his artistic talent! She shared several of his paintings with "patrons" in the dVerse Poets Pub as inspiration for our poems ~ I chose this beauty!
Azul's Art
To an eight-year old boy~ it's a tree ~ a sturdy trunk, grass at its base, a large canopy of branches.
What if I saw a Rorschach Test instead ~~~
A stack of cards, one card at a time
some greyscale, some technicolor
spontaneous ~ free association
my adult mind tries to find balance
to see what darkness has to say about light
I see the world of today, off-kilter
on the verge of losing what we value most
I see the outline of a far-away countries
borders bleeding red into deep violet
I see a flock of neon birds hiding in a canopy of branches
gone in a flurry of rapid gunfire
I see my childhood
sprawling
full of adventure
no end in sight
What do you see?

I was hoping you'd post to this prompt! And what an amazing post!
ReplyDeleteYou go from the naivety of an 8-year old boy's painting....to this
"my adult mind tries to find balance
to see what darkness has to say about light
I see the world of today, off-kilter
on the verge of losing what we value most"
And then you move to the violence and division and darkness of what is happening in the world today - to your childhood with only adventures in front of you....a child's adventures...not imagining what the world could become.
A powerful post!
PS: I'll be hosting dVerse LIVE on 24...hope to see you there!
A very creative take on the prompt, Helen. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteYou went deep with this one Helen. Bravo. I like that you dived deeper from what is there to what you see and further
ReplyDeleteThis is exquisitely drawn, Helen! So much to love here especially; "A stack of cards, one card at a time/some greyscale, some technicolor."❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteHelen, I just love what you did here! And your words about the world today deeply resonate. Bravo! ❤️
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting. An 8-year old? That's astounding. Interesting what the adult eye will see in the fullness of time. Especially poignant to me was the mental image of a flock of birds gone in a flurry of gunfire. Good job Helen!
ReplyDeleteHelen, I seem to recall you live in Bend, Oregon........I am so sorry to hear of the tragic and devastating event today in one of your schools. Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteSo interesting, and so nice that you can be drawn back to lovely memories of childhood. I have no idea why I cannot. No reason, just don't, but it would be perhaps V nice. Lovely concept though, this verse.
