If Only ~~~

Sanaa hosts Poetics in the Pub ~ it's all about dreams.

It's always the same

a knock at my door

my father behind the screen

gone sixty-eight years

it's night but the flowers are alive

they reflect a surreal light ..

I think it's him ~ if only

Imagine

Merril hosts Poetics in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ Music is the theme

In 1985, as the film "The Killing Fields" ended, and the credits rolled ~ John Lennon's music filled the theatre. I could not move ~ sat in my seat, sobbing ~ for what seemed like hours ~

i didn't expect the piano

soft as a mercy

then Lennon

imagining peace

but today

the bombs still fall

on children who

never heard of Lennon

imagine one olive branch

still green

in a garden of ash

Stream of Consciousness

Kim is hosting Poetics Tuesday in the Pub this evening ~ Who knew there were words on an eye chart under the requisite Large to Small letters ~ Kim experienced several of them during a recent exam ~ those words have become our challenge!!!

Helen Original

Once upon a time we were lithe lean lovely could not fathom ourselves as old women with society attaching labels like sage crone elder matriarch while assuming we would carry those labels on stooped shoulders our knees and hips failing fast and of course sketchy memory my friends I take pure delight in introducing to you my friends ladies in their eighties our bodies and brains in pretty great shape because we took care of them through countless decades summer fall winter spring!

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

Time for a bit of editorial bliss in the dVerse Pub ~ Punam has us thinking about "newspapers" ~ using them as inspiration for our poems. I decided to transport us back to the future!

Image ~ Wikipedia

on 6th street corner where shadows gather
a teenage boy greets the dawn
"Read All About It" he calls
his voice cuts through the morning air

today's headlines spill stories of war
the struggles that shape a generation
heroes emerging from tragedy
baseball legends headed for glory
movie stars shimmering on the silver screen

he carries the weight
of the world in his arms
each newspaper a promise
a thread in the fabric of history

in this moment he feels alive
the city's pulse thrums in his veins
dreams of a tomorrow
dance on the horizon

he has become part of
the stories he sells

Endings

Time for Poetics ~ Melissa is hosting in the Poets Pub ~ time for us to focus on interpreting one of the lovely images she has shared.

Red leaves against a concrete wall

Andrew Ridley
—when skies are hanged and oceans drowned,
the single secret will still be man e e cummings

remnants of red linger

whisper of summer's breath

fighting against the chill

against the letting go

a bright vine curling

here autumn settles

its last burst of beauty

bold and bare
