the dVerse Poets Pub is open ~ Grace is hosting and invites to use "synesthesia" in our poems ~ blurring boundaries between senses, creating vivid imagery that resonates with the writer and reader emotionally.
her regret was blue / not a weeping blue
more like a dusky-sky hue
bruised and dignified / tired but standing
their love had never made a song she could hum
it had no key / no resonance
just the low static / of responsibility
the chord-less drone / of almost
when the air moved that day / it glowed
her dream of a future like glass
wind chimes in a high breeze / delicate / discordant
it hurt to hear / but it would hurt more not to
she became a woman / fluent in taste and hue
in the sound of her own voice
filling a room / with no apology
and when she looks back / which she does quietly
hand resting on her pulse
the memory of that leaving shimmers
like heat above asphalt / distorted
but undeniably real
