Dearest Helen, We all learned so much from our dear friends' special need child! They make you all draw to the 'core' of love and attention, stepping back to the fountain of love! Their laugh is so genuine and pure, nothing fake or artificial - no makeup is being used nor commercialized for producing the very BEST! Yes, I dare say that they enriched the lives of so many that got to know them. Thanks for such a lovely in-depth homage to true love. Hugs and happy weekend! Mariette
Yes, special needs children are pure love, and teach us how to love unconditionally, and accept everyone's right to just Be. I remember when a friend had a Downs syndrome baby. It was a blow, she was distressed. Four years later, I watched that litle guy dancing with his father, sharing smiles of pure joy. I can see them still, one of the most beautiful heartwarming things I have ever seen.
...and it breaks my heart as their fate is often sealed when todays parents hear from the doctor they are pregnant with a special needs child. I think it was Iceland that said they had no more Down Syndrome in their country ... well, the reason why made me cry. I have a wonderful friend whose little boy (now maybe 11?) is so charming and sweet - a true joy - has DS... I wish everyone could see him. Sigh. Love your poem.
I love how it boils down to that simple line of simply being... maybe it should apply to every human being, but it's simpler in a special need's children.
