love me for who I am
not what you want me to be
what you might wish for me
love me for who I am
do not abandon me
because I am different
love me for who I am
as I endeavor to make my body
fit the essence that is me
love me for who I am
no longer able to hide
behind tears
I was born this way
different, original, strong
love me for who I am
what you might wish for me
love me for who I am
do not abandon me
because I am different
love me for who I am
as I endeavor to make my body
fit the essence that is me
love me for who I am
no longer able to hide
behind tears
I was born this way
different, original, strong
love me for who I am
An awesome request. I especially like trying to fit the body to the soul it contains. Much better than the other way around.
ReplyDeleteSeconding Sherry's comment--that was my favorite line as well.
ReplyDeleteThe repetition works and a good reminder for us all.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Love me... not for what is outside but what is inside. What I truly am. For myself. A beautiful message for anyone and everyone.
ReplyDeleteA lovely request and a lovely poem! We all deserve this indeed. So glad you joined us for the Muse this week Helen!
ReplyDeleteWho wants to be recognized? Perhaps all of life! Yes, we might all do this to every living thing.
ReplyDeleteThe repetition reinforces the core message of the poem. This is an important message that it's the beauty inside that defines a person.
ReplyDeleteSpeaker's entreaty in the dangerous surroundings make the person vulnerable as well as strangely powerful. A touching message here.
ReplyDelete*standing ovation*
ReplyDeleteI wonder why it is when we "love" someone, we want to change them? Good job. Love me for who I am, not who you want me to be.
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteTransgender or not, this applies to ALL humans!
No exceptions should ever be made or requested.
Hugs,
Mariette
Helen, you put your finger on having successful relationships. I'm not a fake, what you saw is what you get, no more.
ReplyDeleteSorry I am so late, thank you for reading mine.

I applaud you, Helen!
Diversity is a strength, and it seems this world wants a set thing. This world needs to open it's eyes wider to true beauty. I wanted to come re-visit your first Muse poem Helen. It is beautiful and I love it. So glad you have been returning since that week!
