Is there such a thing ????
huffing
and puffing
I'm at three miles
sweat
is fast dripping
my
face is all smiles
music
is blaring
I’m
striding in time
mind sure is drifting
creating
this rhyme
inspired
by the pavement
imperfections
and cracks
watch
where I’m stepping
I’m
breaking no backs
coming
on five miles
feeling
some pain
mind’s
getting fuzzy
no pain means no gain
lo
and behold
what
can this be
a
map of our country
I
giggle with glee
outlined are State lines
yes
yes it’s quite clear
time to head home
for
an icy cold beer!!
Ooh!💘 I love the lightheartedness of this poem especially the way you describe the pavement as a map of country! You have given me something to chew on. Thank you so much for adding your voice to the prompt, Helen!💘
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteWith a lot of phantasy we can see wonderful images on our path everywhere we step!
This is lovely put together.
Hugs,
Mariette
I also like the light-heartedness, Helen, juxtaposed with the weight of the rhythm and rhyme to emphasise the exertion. I can imagine it as a rap.
ReplyDeleteWhat great rhythm the poem had.I used to do a lot of cross country running and that is the way you have work at it getting your body to establish a rythm to be able to last the full distance.
ReplyDeleteThat was such fun to read!
ReplyDeleteAfter all we humans are one, but our stupidity divides us !!
ReplyDeleteA wonderfully humorous presentation of a long, hard run! I so appreciate your writing style, Helen. It's always a pleasure.
ReplyDeleteLOL, we all have to know our limits when we exercise. I don't know that I've exercised so hard I started seeing states, but I know I've babbled a bit.
ReplyDeleteBeer good a really nice reason to head home
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday
Much💖love
I like this. How fun! I love the idea of being inspired by the cracks, as a metaphor. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun write! It played out like a song!
ReplyDeleteFun to read and to see the geography in the cracks!
ReplyDeleteThose long sweaty walks..love/hate them. They are precious though..the proof of life and the ability to keep going.
ReplyDeleteO Helen, is this you walking five miles? Well I guess a few years ago I also walked until I stopped. Now we do per doctors' orders, each told the same day buy different doctors to walk for 30 minutes five times a day. We pretty much to that but the hot weather may stop us. Every day it is in the 90's. For a long time I ran from three to five miles a day, more if I was training.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your cracked pavement pictures with the states like a puzzle named and marked. I think Iowa is the ??. It is in the middle of the Midwest and besides Missouri you needed more of those. Thank you for making that large one to be Texas. :}
p.s. You saw me in a not real nice picture but for the flowers' sake I picked it.
..
Thanks for peeking in on my foodie write.
