Skin Deep

"There is a human wildness held beneath the skin”

Las Vegas ~ photography by Helen

Vanity is her name

perhaps you know her

she seems sweet, innocent

perhaps you know her

folks are attracted

like bees to a flower

she buries the

 'crazy wild' deep inside

watch as she adds

layer after layer of illusion / delusion

~ in a futile attempt to

cover the framework

the scaffolding holding

her together.

  1. Dearest Helen,
Some people can really turn out to be 'only' delusional...

  2. That delusions added is way too common, maybe we don't know who we truly are.

  4. Perhaps, we don’t really know all facets of her persona. Only what she wishes us to know, the rest is hidden under her skin.

  5. The metaphoric allusion...or illusion...and what she shows...is the scaffold... a sadness within me reading the last lines....your poem gives rise to much, many thoughts, what she shows, how she is misunderstood...

  6. An interesting character to paint here Helen. That layer of illusion will shatter one day. Great photo too!

  8. deep layers that resonate, love the analogy of the scaffold ... do we ever really know ourselves let alone others well?

  9. 'watch as she adds/
layer after layer of delusion' - who knows what is buried underneath? Great response to the quote.
