Heading Home!

“Waiting for Better Days" by Matthias-Haker

When all is said and done

You remain the one

Forever friend of mine

A toast to us with wine

Come sit with me this night

Till morning sun turns bright

We’re older now that’s true

The devil's got his due

We braved it all stood tall

And now we face last call

I thank you this sweet night

For sharing strength and light

We've lived the worst, the best

And yes, we've passed the test

True friendship never dies

No matter our goodbyes

  2. Dearest Helen,
    So well formulated!
The devil got his due... How true that sounds in many cases!
    Hugs,

  3. This is so tender, so honest — there is a compelling bittersweetness… and there is love. A sterling write Hellen!

  4. "And now we face last call" - I think we get a bottle or two of the best. Your pick!

  5. Helen, you've written this in the same cadence as Browning's, "Grow Old Along with Me," and I see this as a continuation of his poem. Beautiful!

  6. My hope that when all is said and done there will be renewing hellos.
The rhyme is good, to me it adds sooo much.

  7. Love this! I'm afraid the image makes me think of two gracious ghosts meeting every morning before settling for the day, cheerfully recapping the shenanigans of the night before and looking ahead to another round.

  8. The devil may have gotten his due, but there are things that even he can't take from us. Love is so rare and so precious in this world--you show you know all about it here, Helen. Just beautiful.
