Focus on the
terrified, bewildered eyes
of the children, their mothers ~
as fathers/sons/brothers stay behind
ready to fight for their country.
There is no
acceptable outcome
for the hundreds of thousands
fleeing Ukraine cities ..
destroyed by a monster's
insatiable need to take .. take.
I think these are the eyes that we will have to ask forgiveness. So much evil coming out at once.
ReplyDeleteThis touched me. You are so right, Helen. All those eyes.
ReplyDeleteso difficult to think of words to respond to this
ReplyDeleteYes. All people. Not enemy, just people.
ReplyDeleteIt's awful. Impossible to write about, impossible not to write about it.
ReplyDeleteHaunting.....the children's eyes...what terror they have witnessed, what shock they are in...
ReplyDeleteA very difficult situation to be in. I follow the news everyday and it is heart breaking to see the photos.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! On point.
ReplyDeleteMuch love
Devastating times / events & you capture them so well.
ReplyDeleteTopical and severe, it is very emotional. thank you.
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteIt indeed is heartbreaking.
We have a mushroom related friend in Ukraine and he wrote the first day that he might never see his kids again as they too fled with his wife from the Ukraine...
One cannot imagine how such a 'sudden' emotion is bearable for the people.
And it looks like the entire world is looking away; it already affects ALL of us, we foot the war bill by importing Russian oil.
Hugs,
Mariette
So timely. And oh yes....seeing the newscasts, the videos, the interviews of mothers just off the packed trains, the children wearing backpacks holding on to mother's hand. It is absolutely horrifying and oh yes....the eyes, the eyes say so much about the misery and the fear...and in some, the determination as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrible situation and for what? One man's evil need for power and domination. Wanton destruction to feed his ego.
Yes, the eyes tell a story that will haunt history...how could this evil ever surface and disrupt lives of people who were just trying to live free.
ReplyDeleteThe eyes of those bewildered children will not clear for many years! So sad. Great pome Helen.
ReplyDeleteGreat poem.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Helen. I think putin is soulless. Not sure what kind of creature he is.
ReplyDeleteThose eyes, oh I hope we can all look into them without shame for what more could have been done. Thanks for the reminder, Helen.
ReplyDeletetruely the eyes that matter. peace to all except putin
ReplyDeleteThose eyes haunt, Helen! May we all remember these eyes next time someone threatens us with war.
ReplyDeletethese eyes are haunting and will forever be worthy of us asking for forgiveness. a powerful one, Helen.
ReplyDeleteIt is unbelievably terrible. Who could ever un-see the brutality and grief. Powerful words Helen.
ReplyDeleteGot that right,, insatiable need to take. Praying for all the innocent!
ReplyDeleteA daily horror, yet it's impossible to turn our own eyes away...
ReplyDeleteOh you I feel this. How will those eyes -those leaving, those remaining- look upon these times years from now.
ReplyDeleteA heart in my throat read, that line 'stay behind' carries such grief, and the powerlessness as we wait and watch.
ReplyDeleteSimply devastating - and so utterly pointless to boot!
ReplyDelete-David [ben Alexander]
Our hearts bleed for the people of Ukraine. Curses on Putin!
ReplyDeleteI keep seeing the children clutching stuffed animals, and the bombing of the maternity hospital. As hard as it to look, it's impossible
ReplyDeletenot to. What to do when someone so powerful is so insane.
