It's a True Story

Time to dance the Quadrille in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ the magic word for today is "TRIP"

1969

cocktail party, she was young and quite prim

among highbrows, professors, jargon and wit

spied a hunk with an ever so handsome grin

sipping a scotch, with pipe in tanned hand

“I just love smoke-pipers"

then tripped on the rest of her wit

Smile !!

dVerse Poets pub  and Quadrille Monday ~ De is hosting, the magic word for today is "SMILE'"

2016 Montecatini Italy

At eighty-four

I wink at mirrors

pockets stuffed with mischief

memories and improbable alibis

SMILE YOU'RE ON CANDID CAMERA

if walls talked they'd blush

if diaries escaped they'd jog

I've lived loudly

laughed harder

and edited strategically

leaving crumbs, winks

and harmless scandal behind

Luck's In a Number!

WhimsyGizmo is hosting Quadrille Monday in the Pub ~ the magic word is "Much"

How much voodoo

went into choosing

Quadrille's magic number

forty-four”

[curious minds need to know]

what's wrong with twenty-three

when I play the lottery

pick your own”

I play “forty-four”

and “twenty-three”

both there Saturday night

looking for four winners

your tips, pretty please?

HOW LONG?

BACK FROM A TWO WEEK HIATUS ~ LISA IS HOSTING QUADRILLE MONDAY

"TURN" IS THE WORD WE ARE TO USE IN OUR POEMS

Our Son Christopher's Artwork ~ From Decades Ago

HOW MANY CORNERS MUST WE TURN

HOW MANY CITIES MUST WE BURN

HOW MANY WOUNDS MUST HISTORY HIDE

HOW MANY TEARS HAVE JUSTIFIED PRIDE

HOW LONG TILL TRUTH OUT-VOICES FEAR

HOW CLOSE MUST RUIN DRAW TO HEAR

BEFORE WE LEARN TO DOUSE THE FLAMES

Missing

Lillian is hosting Quadrille Monday ~ the word we must use in our 44 word poems is "SUNRISE"!

I ask the sky

how do i greet sunrise

when your presence has gone silent

how do i lift this face

smile, carry joy in my heart

knowing what it has lost

****

still the sun climbs

i slowly, bravely

rise with it

for you

Time For a Quadrille!

Monday in dVerse Poets Pub means QUADRILLE ~ Mish is hosting today ~ our challenge ~ use the word "tangle" or a derivative in a 44-word poem.

tangled lights sway

in night's twilight

lush

spun gold trembles

'neath Ferris Wheel's

hush

spokes turn burgundy

deep red as shadows

reel

spinning tales of stories dark

rhythm turning

steel

two shapes draw near

breaths held

tight

lovers and legends

in the coming

night

WHO IS SHE?

It's Quadrille Monday in the dVerse Pub ~ Punam is hosting ~ our challenge ~~ use the word "alter" or a form of the word, in a 44-word quadrille!

tucked in my shadow's pocket

"alter-ego" stretches its limbs

tosses back its hair

waits for the music

spotlight humming

I vanish ~ "she" arrives

bold as brass

borrowing my shoes

but none of my demeanor

the curtain falls

 back into the pocket

'till next time

Will There Be a Next?

Time for Quadrilles in the dVerse Pub ~ 44 words will do it! De is hosting and provides us with the word ENCHANT (or a form of it) for inspiration.

Illinois ~ Missouri

first memories ~ my kin

dancing with history in Maryland

the snowy silence of Minnesota

and warmth of Georgia's red clay

salt and citrus breath of Florida

the hush of Oregon's pine

each State a whisper of enchantment

promises made beneath different skies

WHAT IF ~~~

De is hosting today in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ it's time for a Quadrille!

"WHAT" is the magic word!

what if I told you

it was never about doubt

never about transgressions

what if I told you

my mistakes were

as unforgivable as yours

I was still in love with you

would you take me back

or would you tell me it’s over

Yum! Yum!

Quadrille Monday in the Pub ~ Lillian has tossed us the word figment to include in our poems!

Figgy pudding, sweet delight, merely a figment, out of sight

In my mind, it sits and steams, dripping figs and creamy dreams

Reality, it will not breach, and far beyond my longing's reach

A sugary specter, just for me, sweet figment of my fantasy

The Happy Wanderer

aging comes with benefits

this I've come to learn

adventure in far off places

I've bridges yet to burn

where to next I ponder

on land, on sea ~ just me?

or throw all caution to the wind

'tis loads more fun with two ~ agree?

De has us dancing in the dVerse Poets Pub today ~ Time to Quadrille!!

Wheeeee, It's Friday!!

Friday is more than just a day

it's a feeling

Friday evening ushers in

a time of unwinding

clinking glasses and laughter

a symphony of camaraderie

drowning out the week's cacophony

it's time to celebrate small victories

shrug off momentary defeats

Happy Hour beckons

Time for a Quadrille in the Pub ~~ not the Dance ~~ the Poem!! De supplies the word "Friday" for us to build our quadrilles around!

Nightfall

Monday in dVerse Poets Pub ~  time for a Quadrille! Punam has given us the word 'slumber' to use in our poems! ZZzzzzzzz

in the darkness of night

slumber will not come

this hour, these moments

belong to us

Debussy is playing

when the nocturne ends

I wonder, will we ever end

in the darkness of night

slumber will not come

this hour, these moments

ours

Cholera

Monday Quadrille hosted by Bjorn in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ the prompt word today is "snow" or any derivative of it.

The Mill, 1964, by Andrew Wyeth

somber march past house and stable

to the family burial plot

 across snowy fields

lifeless and barren

every day a funeral procession

as one by one they lost their children

a horse drawn caisson

bearing tiny handmade coffins

for whom the bell tolls

Pining Away

we met in that time of the year

when trees sleep and flowers die

found our fire amidst

laughing aspens, whispering pines

falling leaves of red and gold

autumn's light fading

sun's angle dropping

too low for nourishment

we lost our rhythm

drifted apart

Today in the Pub, De has us concentrating on the word "Pine" or a derivative! Forty-four words ~ The Quadrille!

Color Wheel

Pops of color everywhere
a flourish here, a dib-dab there
fiery reds to ocean hues
will chase away your Monday blues
dashes of yellow, splashes of green
vibrant rainbows set the scene
sofas in fuchsia, lamps in gold
pops of color, let's go bold!

In the dVerse Pub today, Mish asks us to use the word POP or some form of it in a 44-word poem ~~~ Ladies & Gents ~~~ the Quadrille!

Doomed

we were hopeless at chess

jumping each other

like playing leapfrog

{ a child's game }

mapping strategies

destined to fail

knights stumbling

rooks crashing

time to break rank

gather up pieces, move on

you were never my king

i was never your queen

Back In The Day

Back in the 80s before Prince launched tours, he rehearsed at First Avenue, with no fanfare.  We learned about these rehearsals via telephone calls from a few select friends ~ on our  landlines!!

a greyhound station

back in the day

a cool venue lying in wait

balanced on the precipice

Prince! Tina! The Boss!

we were the 'splurge generation'

on our feet

needing a quick fix

music our drug of choice

Browsing

Linda asks us to use the word "Browse" or a derivative in our Quadrilles

Memorial Day

the perfect time to drag out

that heavy 'old photos' box

thousands of them

a day made for solitude, for browsing

memories, moments, the very best ones

~ sometimes a mood takes over ~

can too much of a good thing ruin it?

 Never.

Eye of a Monster

Bend Oregon

Focus on the

terrified, bewildered eyes

of the children, their mothers ~

as fathers/sons/brothers stay behind

ready to fight for their country.

There is no

acceptable outcome

for the hundreds of thousands

fleeing Ukraine cities ..

destroyed by a monster's

insatiable need to take .. take.
