The 80s
Birthed in Detroit
they say she possessed
hypnotic charm
(hardcore, if you get my drift)
Man could she sing!
Give her a mic, a few backups
bass, drummer, keyboard, guitar
let her hit those downtown club stages
She gave 'em what they needed
jazz enough to tame
their inner ''Motor City' beast'
sass enough to face
tomorrow's production line

I love it!!
ReplyDeleteI love it, too, and can see YOU, Helen, behind the mic, dazzling the crowd. Smiles. I always sang, too, but, alas, was too self-conscious to do so in front of people. Silly me.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Nice one Helen
ReplyDeleteHappy you dropped by my blog
Much💛love
She looks good, the charming jazz singer with the mic!
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderfully evocative, my dearest Helen! I can picture her so clearly 💘💘
ReplyDeleteA wonderful poem, Helen. That is you in the photo, right!!?? I love it.
ReplyDeleteI love this through and through Helen, and that picture of that amazing singer is gorgeous! She still is gorgeous! wink wink :-)
ReplyDeleteMusic is one of the joys of life, and to be able to share it, a gift.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Helen! And now I so want to hear you sing! Love that photo of you :-)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like music with a real purpose.
ReplyDeleteThat release that comes from music after a day on "the production line": a few have the talent to provide it and how! (Is that a picture of you, Helen?)
ReplyDelete~Dora
I would definitely be your back up singer! Such a good way to blow off some steam.
