Just wanted to add a bit more. This resonates. The loss my mother too young certainly had an impact, although many have had such a critical loss at a far younger age than I did in my twenties.
Dearest Helen, Yes, time heals all wounds—physical ones and emotional ones. But having our proofs by means of photos or other sentimental memories sure helps us! Hugs, Mariette
Did you have the feeling of being an induced orphan? We've always had a mother and now we don't. We have some dishes, furniture, pictures, and stocking caps from Mom, perhaps a few other. She died at age 88, Dad nine years later. Oh Yes, you've read me long enough to have seen my Green 1974 Ford Mustang II Ghia, I bought it from Ford (I worked for Ford) as a turned in lease car. I got it back when Dad died, it has 67K miles and I put new tires on it. My middle granddaughter wants it now to make an Art Car of it. It's too pristine for that, my answer is no. ..
Oh wow... this was so simply written, which makes it all the more powerful. This small piece is a perfectly executed, honest sliver of grief. I really like it.

The vanishing is such a mystery. I'm always looking for clues.
ReplyDeletePeople who leave live in others' fond memories... that must be reassuring during the long, hard process of healing. If at all.
ReplyDeleteOh, how poignant!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blog

ReplyDeleteSo simply written, yet convey so much.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the hospital where my mother stays, and where she passes away, after she suffered a stroke.
Time doesn't heal wounds. You manage to get past them. Beautiful piece, Helen.
