Let There Be Light

Holograms are 'so yesterday'

three dimensions

plus a collection of light beams

[ forget about 'em!! ]

AI says we're headed straight

for a brave new world called

 'virtual immortality'

Building digital models of ourselves

chat-bots bequeathed at death

the “old / new” version of us ~ so to speak

Cobbled together from snippets of

old videos, photos, letters, blog posts

data points ~ loaded into a machine

Do we, dare we ~ resurrect ourselves for posterity

there are decisions to be made ~ ethical, legal, moral

  1. I loved that book. And fear AI. Actual intelligence has done enough damage, lol.

  2. Didn't like the book too much but I love how you incorporated the title into your poem... there seems to be no regulation forthcoming, so that does indeed seem to be the future- the self-resurrection as you rightly call it.

  3. It's a frightening idea, but also a tempting one. :)

  6. Seems like a fun time, trying to mess the chatbox up. I do that with sales folk now, ask them if they are robots, after a few denials test them to see if they really aren't one. Half hour has been the longest. Always claim that they talk like a robot.

  7. What a bizarre thought! But I love your poem, and now will definitely have to get hold of a copy of that book.

  9. Technology, AI in particularly, is so appealing... until we truly think about the horrors it can breed. Your poem puts it well, there is much thinking to be done before making decisions of where we are going. If we don't think, someone else might end up doing it for us--while wearing our faces, mannerism, personality... Scary, isn't it?

Also, adding the book to my list!
