It's Poetics Tuesday in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ Melissa reminds us it is "National Spicy Guacamole Day" in the US of A. To that end she provided us with more than a few appropriate words (we must use at least four) to include in our poems. I detoured 'round the guac.
they say you're a shell
of your former self
lost those quirky raw edges
your talking points ..
spice-less, bland, boring
I prefer you older
no brash bravado
finely tuned with age
no more battles to wage ..
no more wars to win

ReplyDeleteI love your poem, Helen. We do mellow with age, or turn rotten! :>)
ReplyDeleteI love the layout and line breaks, Helen. I have a finely-tuned avocado at home too. We still have the odd battle though.
ReplyDeleteWe all reach that point... but alas for some it takes time to mature
ReplyDeleteFinely tuned with age...I very much like that. Nicely crafted poem.
ReplyDeletei like finely tuned with age
ReplyDeleteIf being quirky and interesting means starting fights, best to grow out of it :)
ReplyDeleteI so resonate with this, Helen...no more battles to win.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the thoughtful reflection on aging and finding peace.
