Time for Poetics in the dVerse Poets Pub ~~ Dora challenges us to use an animal of our choice as a metaphor for how ideas and words take shape on a blank page .. in our minds ~~ in our dreams.

In twilight's realm
where dreams softly tread
flocks of inspiration
graze about my head
Counting ideas
instead of sheep
fragments of poems
dreamt as I sleep
Thankful for sheep
who wander and roam
my muse is awakened
this shepherd comes home

I am in absolute awe of that opening stanza, Helen, perfect in every way And its brilliant lead-in to sheep as "fragments of poems" is utterly charming. The contentment of this landscape is the most appealing to me: it's "home" after all for the shepherd. I love it. 💖

ReplyDeleteThe time between awake and sleep is fertile ground indeed!
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteThis shepherd is home—stay warm and cozy!

Nice!! Counting sheep never worked for me. Counting ideas keeps me awake. What's an insomniac to do?
ReplyDeleteSounds like me at night too Helen. Love this part: Counting ideas
ReplyDeleteinstead of sheep
fragments of poems
Oh my, this is brilliant, Helen! The middle stanza I feel keenly as often I am counting ideas for poems whilst waiting for sleep to come.
ReplyDeleteI love the thematic you used, and the ending sounded packed with joy! Also, it feels like you mention those moments where we are drifting off to sleep and suddenly feel the need to write, an idea, the most perfect one comes, and is gone as soon as we close our eyes.
ReplyDelete"counting ideas instead of sheep" - Love that, Helen.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the rhyming as well.
haha Helen, good way of putting it.
ReplyDeleteSo love this, Helen! You are the best!
