Laura presents dVerse Poets with a challenge: write a "Cascade Poem" I used the first five lines from a poem I published in June, 2022.
give us the strength to teach our daughters
to understand the value of their gender
give us courage to teach our daughters
to stand tall in the face of their own power
help them uncover their inner strength
in stories woven through time
show them fierce queens battlers brave
names engraved in history's tapestry
empowering legacies they might embrace
give us strength to teach our daughters
with gentle words and fierce resolve
with each setback promises to keep
spirits lift when dreams evolve
help us lead them through shadows deep
to understand the value of their gender
let us be their beacon bright
in fields of doubt where shadows loom
with strength born of maternal might
their path illuminated dispelling gloom
give us courage to teach our daughters
to lift them up with tender care
to help them find where they belong
within love's refuge sing their songs
infuse resilience beyond compare
to stand tall in the face of their own power
help us be a fortress
steadfast and strong
through storms and trials
with every stumble every fall
help them uncover their inner strength

Mama Bear Manifesta! Love this, Helen. Your daughter or daughters are blessed to have you for a mother <3
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteValuable poem and especially about inner strength!
Hugs,
Mariette
This is beautifully written, Helen. I love your sentiments and your words of wisdom of our daughters and the effect we have on their future lives.
ReplyDeleteHelen, this is one of your finest - our poems go deep, when we write about our hopes for our children. This is wonderful. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteHelen, this is so very lovely; I especially like
ReplyDelete"help them find where they belong
within love's refuge, sing their songs
infuse resilience beyond compare"
I wrote a parent one, too, and I think our creations make lovely companions.
Namaste,
Kim
As a mother of a lovely daughter, your poem resonates with me, Helen. A powerful prayer for women of the past, present and future.
ReplyDeleteI really think we need for everyone to be resolved and not moulded into the expectation of gender, there is so much strenght and resolve denied.
ReplyDeletehow touching Helen is this prayer for daughters - especially the third stanza
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful poem Helen. the final stanza is a wonderful prayer for the generations to come.
ReplyDeleteThis one might just be one of your most finest I’ve read so far, Helen. I’m sure there’s more from where this one comes. Wow. Beautiful. Xoxo, Selma.
ReplyDeleteA poem of strength and resilience... let us be their beacon bright
ReplyDeletein fields of doubt where shadows loom...yes, let us! :)
As a father of a wonderful talented beautiful daughter, I champion your excellent words here. Though my Jennifer is very successful in her career, in her early years she was compromised because of her beauty. But she has come through it to “stand tall in the face of (her) own power”. Now she is an executive in the financial world, and takes no shit from no one. It was a strength tempered in the fire of ignorant misogynism. Great write my friend! πππΌ✌πΌπ«ΆπΌ
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love. ❤️
ReplyDeleteThis brought tears to my eyes, Helen, even as my heart echoed your own in prayer for our daughters. Such loving words and fierce with resolve to protect, guide, nurture, strengthen, to "sing their songs," "stand tall" in the battle that this world is and always has been. A gorgeous cascade.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful anthem Helen. So much warmth and strength. It is more important than ever that women stand up for their rights in the face of an increasingly dark patriarchy.
