Stepping Out Of This World

Photo by John McKaveney ~  Hotel

Kulmhotel Gornergrat Observatory Hotel in Switzerland, located at 10,171 feet.”

atop this alpine inn

a most magical sight

an observatory awaits

bathed in starlight

as dusk slips away

and night sky unfurls

constellations dance

in celestial swirls

orion is waltzing holds

ursa major tight

cassiopeia spins

in starry delight

lean close, my darling

we must listen well

the dense milky way

has stories to tell

of comets lost

and lunar spring

black holes that hum

quasars that sing

at dawn there's espresso

brewed with great care

steam spirals swirling

like galaxies rare

It's Poetics Tuesday in dVerse Poets Pub ~ Lillian shares four images as inspiration for our poems today. We are to choose one of them. I chose this fascinating image.

  2. Dearest Helen,
Well, observing the sky and all. that is in it, at such an altitude is sure upliften and almost other worldly.
Such a steamy espresso is also enlightening.
    Hugs,

  5. Oh my, this took my breath away, Helen, this dance, this magic, that catches us up to night stars overhead and then to awaken to another dance, "steam spirals swirling/ like galaxies rare"! What more can one ask!

  8. I enjoyed the romance, Helen: the inn and observatory ‘bathed in starlight / as dusk slips away’ and the constellations dancing, with Orion holding Ursa Major tight. I especially love the simile with espresso ‘steam spirals swirling like galaxies rare’.

  9. Oh how I love this....and I expect John will as well. You've taken the photo, and the place it's taken, and expanded into the glory of this place and what it allows us to see. I love the idea of Orion dancing and holding tight Ursa Major....your mention of other sites/sights from the observatory....bringing us so close to all these constellations and then bringing us back to earth with the espresso. Fabulous writing to the prompt! :) Love it!
