a tangle of thoughts gone astray
meaningless moments, jumbled
slivers of time lost in the chaos
of cobwebs cluttering my mind
i sought existential answers
while trapped in a cycle of triviality
i found a box full of "stuff"
modern life happened at warp speed
social media, emails, voice mails .. way too much
days when 'overwhelmed' felt real
difficult to focus on meaningful pursuits
indifference, confusion, disorientation
multitasking, divided attention
and i asked myself .. what's it all about
what is it i seek, is there no escape
i found a box full of "stuff"
in search of clarity, deep breaths
to silence the cacophony
find a moment's respite, find peace
from the noise, reconnect with
my inner voice, rediscover
purpose 'midst the fray
i found a box full of "stuff"
In the Pub, Laura introduces us to “Bop Poetry” ~ a challenging form of 23 lines, in 3 stanzas. First stanza poses a problem, second expands the problem and third solves the problem. Each stanza is followed by the same refrain line beginning with “I found a box"
Memories took me all the way back to my career .. running a large travel management company, 36 staff .... how grueling it could be.

"I sought existential answers while
ReplyDeletetrapped in a cycle of triviality ~~" Agree to every word of this perfectly done bop! The world, the technology came at us so fast. The only way to deal with the triviality that you characterize so well is as you say, to find something beyond it and that need comes through loud and clear, through all the "stuff," that need to "reconnect with/my inner voice." Love this bop, Helen. π
- you built such tension in your Bop poem and then there is tangible relief in that last stanza. Very nice use of this poetry style Helen - (and what an impressive career!)
ReplyDeleteOh, I know that feeling, Helen, the ‘jumbled slivers of time lost in the chaos
ReplyDeleteof cobwebs cluttering my mind’! And I agree, ‘modern life happened at warp speed’, it makes you dizzy. Peace and the inner voice are just what I need.
And they're finding room for AI.
ReplyDelete..
Multitasking, chunks of time..
ReplyDeleteYou really put us in the feeling of a working person who basically has no time.
I totally related as for many years I had no time at all.
But because you are a creative person you can dance anything in no time.
With the information overload we have to find ways to deal with it... (especially since everything becomes "stuff".
ReplyDeleteI echo Dora's comment. just too much chaff that distracts from the grain
ReplyDeleteI so relate Helen. I do not believe we modern humans are capable yet to stay connected to this world my friend. It’s simply moving so fast and furious, finding grip seems nearly impossible. Finding depth these days is even more difficult. Peace Helen, worth is out there, just harder to hold onto… ✌πΌπ«ΆπΌ
ReplyDeleteI think I need to clean my house (one big box) of "stuff"!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. Very relatable.

This resonated deeply, Helen! A perfect bop and a perfect solution to find peace.

I connect to this one, Helen!
Your poem is full of information overload!
