Searching, searching for the elusive Mr. Matthew Fox. PERTINENT FACTS: I was a fan of the TV series “Lost” through six seasons and one-hundred twenty-one episodes. Matthew starred. Nowadays he lives in my city, pilots his own plane. A friend who parks his glider in the same hanger as Matthew [and knows I am a "crazed" fan] arranged an in-person visit for my 80th birthday!
Was I bamboozled / flustered / barely lucid ? YOU BETCHA, at first. Until the “real” Matthew casually finessed his way out from behind a wing! Talk about personable, gracious and complimentary .. I melted on the spot; followed by thirty minutes of casual chit-chat. [ You know .. the usual stuff. ] Family, Theatre, Film, his TV series “Lost”. My grandson Charlie and his daughter were high school classmates. Oh, tons of parties were thrown out at that "Fox Mansion!” Promise you that I .......
will never forget
on that beautiful Fall day
how we talked and laughed

What a lovely thing it is, to meet someone you admire so much. A wonderful birthday gift. Awesome.
ReplyDelete(Comment by Eliza Fugglesnup) Shay was thrilled to hear of your exciting meeting with one of your favorite stars! However, as you might have guessed, telling Shay NOT to do something is almost a guarantee that she will do that thing. She would have left you a nice comment herself, but after reading a haiku she had to be taken by ambulance to the rest home in the throes of a total emotional breakdown. A few months of sitting under a blanket on the lawn will speed her recovery, we hope. For now, we just wish she would stop screaming HAI...IT WAS A HAI HAI HAIKUUUUUUUUU GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Yours truly, Eliza Fugglesnup
ReplyDeleteDearest Eliza, I am on my way with homemade brownies and lemonade. It should help.
DeleteLove you, Woonie.

DeleteMoments like this are treasures to be hoarded! Thanks for sharing this one with us, Helen. I imagine Matthew Fox was as charmed by you as we are with your poetry, your muse, your grace.
ReplyDeleteHelen very well written, you used the words creatively!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Matthew Fox will be charmed by your personality!
What an absolutely wonderful experience! I am sure this was a thrill of a lifetime for you.
ReplyDeleteSounds like my mom and CW movie star, Hoot Gibson (1862-1982), had a few dates. He was much older than she but from her home town, town of my high school alma mater, so they were friends. My Dad teased her a lot about "her old boy friend."
ReplyDelete..
What a cool memory, Helen! And, I can tell, a very fun and cherished one!
