Laura hosts Meeting the Bar in the Poets Pub ~ our challenge, to create a 'fragment poem'. I used the last three lines from the last stanza of Leonard Cohen's "Take This Waltz" song ~ which was influenced by Federico Garcia Lorca's "Little Viennese Waltz Poem." The lines I chose are italicized in red.
a gift from the universe ~
this moment carved from eternity
our bodies a language
spoken without words
O my love, O my love
each turn, each pivot
sweet fire burns within.
we are infinite, we are free
we are music, we are dance
lost in a cadence of our creation
take this waltz, take this waltz
every heartbeat a promise
every touch our solemn vow
it's yours now, it's all that there is.
Leonard Cohen....doesn't get any better than that. Good choice!
ReplyDeletevery moving Helen literally and in the sway of the rhythm - I did not know about the Lorca connection (and love LC's waltz)
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
ReplyDeleteYes, we are infinite and free!
Hugs,
Mariette
In Cohen's speech at the Asturias Prize ceremony, he spoke of Lorca as granting him “permission to find a voice, to locate a voice, (...) to locate a self: a self that is not fixed, a self that struggles for its own existence.”
