Tableau: the Equines

Laura is hosting Meeting the Bar in the dVerse Poets Pub today ~~ it's all about the Tableau poetry form which consists of one or more verses, each having six lines. Five beats per line, no set rhyme scheme, the title contains the word tableau. A picture should come to mind as the poem is read.

Deschutes Riverbank, Bend Oregon

on this riverbank
a twisting turning
arm of the Deschutes
two horses sculpted
from twisted metal
stand as testament

enduring symbol
of resolve / great strength
unbroken spirits
under the weight of
countless challenges
true beacons of hope

this territory
where dreams would take root
settlers forging on
into the unknown
a rugged terrain
that is Oregon

settlers flourishing
a community
of like-minded souls
trailblazing spirits
their tales told in the
chronicles of Bend

  7. Great sculpture, and the settling is a fascinating topic with so many facets that we still need to understand.

  8. What a wonderful sculpture! You've done it and its context full justice.

  9. The horses by themselves looked a bit like calling-the-recycling-art, which is at least nicer than letting it pile up. The poem gives it meaning. Now i like both.
