The Far Side!

Grace is our host today in the dVerse Poets Pub ~ and introduces us to the "Villonet" ~ a combination of the Villanelle and Sonnet. a poem of fifteen lines, made up of three quatrains, followed by a tercet in iambic pentameter.  Line one is repeated in Line eight and in Line thirteen. Line four is repeated in Line twelve and in Line fifteen.  WHEW!!.

At thirteen Leroy Shey was quite a catch

his hand in mine the world began to glow

and lit a spark i thought would only grow

our first kiss awkward as a crooked match

On the ferris wheel a romantic treat

until he rocked the seat with wicked glee

and suddenly it wasn't meant to be

at thirteen leroy shea was quite a catch

Must have called himself "daring Romeo"

fear struck me like a whirlwind deep within

Leroy with his devil-may-care cute grin

our first kiss awkward as a crooked match

at thirteen leroy shea was quite a catch

our tale was brief but cotton candy sweet

our first kiss awkward as a crooked match

  1. That was a sweet but brief one Helen. On a ferris wheel I would have frozen with fright. I enjoyed your villonnet. And that photo of you (I think) is lovely.

  2. It is amazing how much longer it takes for boys to grow up.... (some never do)

  3. A sweet villonet and a sweet photo of you, Helen. I love the simile comparing a first kiss awkward ‘as a crooked match’. I think I would have dumped a boy who rocked a ferris wheel.

  6. This poem is special in that it tells your story oh so well, but also gently invites the reader to remember their own first kiss, "awkward as a crooked match".

  10. So your first mistake was getting on that ferris wheel. Love the comparison to a crooked match.
