Rommy jump-starts our creative thought processes with this quote:
“Don’t be afraid to start over
this time you’re not starting from scratch
you’re starting from experience”
I've tripped more times
than I can count
each time i stumbled
i looked for the silver lining
usually found it and said to myself
'well that didn't go quite as planned'
i've had new jobs, new loves, new hips, new friends
replacements for things i wore out living
each time, learning how to begin again
with grace, more determination
all the encouragement I needed
Wonderful to be so resilient and self-motivated!
ReplyDeleteI like the thought of wearing things out just through living. My hips ache this morning....
ReplyDeleteHaving grace and enough sense to move on to a higher level each time with wisdom, comes with age and experience. Although to do this successfully takes a gifted person or one who genuinely learns from past mistakes. A well-written poem, Helen.
ReplyDeleteGood for you ! Strong determined character.
ReplyDeleteHelen, you've learned the ropes of growing old!!! Learn by doing. How did you break your hip? Mrs Jim learned to be more careful climbing through a board fence. Do you have a walker to steady with when you get out of bed, need more stable than just a cane. I learned when I got up at 4:00 to visit the vessel. I can not rawl or even get on my knees, both kneecaps did not heal after I broke them. Mrs J couldn't lift my dead weight and had to call two neighbors to get me up. No, I didn't pee my jammer. Kids made me get the walker out and also put a half rail on my bed front side. Doubt I'll fall that way again.
ReplyDeleteThere is a line waiting for me when Mrs croaks. But you are my favorite widow.
DeleteWell done. Try, learn and keep trying.
ReplyDeleteHaving an abundance of encouragement is a wonderful thing to have! And what a joy it is to spread that encouragement to others when they need their turn to be boosted.
ReplyDeleteAt last, somebody thought of "starting over" in terms of something other than sex. (What a sexy lot of seniors we are!) Starting to think in terms of new teeth, I appreciate your optimism about the new hip.
