Rosemary [ Friday Writings ] asks we respond to a provocative question:
"This world has no meaning. Why fucking bother?”
Also Submitted to Lisa and the dVerse Poets Pub ~ Open Link Night
'The
woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and
miles
to go before I sleep'. ** Robert Frost **
you ask me why, why bother at all?
i have stood in that question's shadow
in a world that shrugs at meaning
should i forget the sound
of my own footsteps
it will only grow louder
the woods are lovely, dark, and deep
but i haven't come this far
to lie down in them just yet
meaning is not found ..
it is made in the small
insistence "of staying"
so why bother?
because my story is not done
because love has not released me
because there are miles before me
i will walk them, shoulders back
gloriously awake

So glad my confetti found you! I always enjoy your slant on things. You are meaning personified, Helen. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, stay and find out!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness Helen...you are such a little Trooper ! You would be an asset and hopefully cherished in anyone's life. So pleased I have encountered you in poetry over all of these years. Thank you for still being here :)
ReplyDeleteFriend, I'm glad you still have those miles and WILL walk them. Not real sure of mine, for sure I've walked the most. Nicely written.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I love this answer. And I think it holds true whether we have miles or only inches.
ReplyDeleteYou’re an example to all of us women, Helen. I will keep that image of you walking the miles shoulders back and gloriously awake.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your poem and loved the last line; i will walk them, shoulders back
ReplyDeletegloriously awake. I walk with you!
Helen, you brought tears to my eyes with your poem. Good to remember:
ReplyDelete"meaning is not found ..
it is made in the small
insistence "of staying""
Heartening words for a jumbled up world <3
It's easy to despair these days. But not. Loved your write.
ReplyDeleteWhen we cease to bother it means we cease to live.... there is too much to care for.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the speaker is choosing to walk the miles before. I hope we all are.
ReplyDeleteI love how Frost's words echo in yours, Helen, and Shakespeare's too in my mind, because love's labour is never lost.
ReplyDeleteQuietly fierce Helen 👏
